Annual Checkup: Which Check Ups Should You Do Every Year?

Which health checks should you have every year?;

Depending on gender, age and family history, the standard tests usually recommended are:

Essential tests for everyone:

• Complete blood count – Screening for anaemia, inflammation and infections
• Urinalysis – Check for infections or kidney problems
• Blood sugar (glucose) – Screening for pre-diabetes or diabetes
• Cholesterol & lipids (total, HDL, LDL, triglycerides)
• Liver enzymes (SGOT, SGPT, γGT) – Liver function test
• Urea & creatinine – Renal function test
• Electrocardiogram (ECG) – Particularly for people over 40
• Blood pressure – At regular intervals

For women:

• Pap test (every 1–3 years, depending on age)
• Mammography (over 40 or as advised by your gynaecologist)
• Breast/uterus/ovary ultrasound scan
• Thyroid tests (TSH, FT3, FT4)

For men:

• Prostate screening (PSA) – Over 45, or earlier if there is a family history
• Testicle examination – Self-examination and/or clinical examination
• Hepatological or gastroenterological examination, if there are any indications
